School Admissions Testing
Oftentimes, private schools require a cognitive assessment as part of the admission process. These assessments measure the cognitive ability/IQ of applicants and are a great gauge for where your child stands in terms of academics and various cognitive skills. In order to assure that your assessment is accepted, most applicants will seek out a licensed psychologist to administer their evaluation.
What to expect during my child’s independent school admissions test?
During your child’s evaluation., a licensed clinical psychologist will typically take your child through a series of activities that allows that clinician to assess multiple areas of cognitive abilities, such as:
- Critical thinking
- Logic
- Memory
- Perception
- Language
- Reasoning
- Verbal communication
- Problem-solving
When scheduling your child’s cognitive evaluation, please be mindful that IQ tests are only valid if your child has not been administered the same assessment within the last year. Prior to completing the enrollment process, confirm with your child’s school that they will in fact accept outside test results.
